Avenatti is Talking to Trump’s Legal Team and Cohen is Pitching a Show – HotAir

Did you ever think you would see the day when Michael Avenatti would be talking to the Trump legal team and offering to testify in support of Donald Trump?

Avenatti has been doing just that from Terminal Island, a minimum-security federal prison in Los Angeles. He is serving a 19-year sentence for extortion, tax evasion, fraud, embezzlement, and other federal crimes. He said that Trump’s defense team contacted him

“I’d be more than happy to testify, I don’t know that I will be called to testify, but I have been in touch with Trump’s defense for the better part of the year,” Avenatti said.

Avenatti is the former attorney for Stormy Daniels, a porn actress paid by Donald Trump to remain silent about their alleged affair. The trial now described as Trump’s hush money trial begins today in Manhattan.

In 2018, Avenatti made a name for himself as a vicious critic of then-President Trump. He even called for Trump’s indictment at that time. The media ran stories about him and interviewed him. CNN and MSNBC, in particular, were enamored with him. Media personalities began to gush that he should run for president. It was insane. Then it all came tumbling down for him and now he is a convicted felon serving time in prison.

Avenatti thinks that Trump’s charges are politically motivated. Ya think so, Michael? So, he’s happy to speak up for Trump in court.

“There’s no question [the trial] is politically motivated because they’re concerned that he may be reelected,” Avenatti said. “If the defendant was anyone other than Donald Trump, this case would not have been brought at this time, and for the government to attempt to bring this case and convict him in an effort to prevent tens of millions of people from voting for him, I think it’s just flat out wrong, and atrocious.

“I’m really bothered by the fact that Trump, in my view, has been targeted. Four cases is just over the top and I think there’s a significant chance that this is going to all backfire and is going to propel him to the White House,” he added.

It is very likely that Trump’s trial(s) will backfire and bring more voters to his side. After every one of the four cases against him was brought and indictments issued, his poll numbers climbed. Independent voters don’t like seeing Democrats and their fellow travelers in the media cheer as Trump’s legal challenges grow. Democrats hope Trump will be convicted and possibly jailed before election day. It has become obvious that if Donald Trump had decided to retire to Florida and not run again, he would be living a different reality.

Avenatti went on to say, “Depending on what happens, this could constitute pouring jet fuel on his campaign.” Exactly.

He has since turned on his former client, Stormy Daniels, and now calls her a liar who should not be allowed to testify against Trump. He portrays himself as a victim of Democrats concerned about his rise in the party. He thinks he has that in common with Trump.

“I think that we were both targeted by the justice system,” Avenatti said. “There’s a lot of people on the left that were very concerned about my potential rise within the Democratic Party and my potential rise in Democratic politics. And the fact that I was not someone that was easily controlled.”

It would be something to see Avenatti appear in court in support of Trump, even via video, that’s for sure.

Remember when there was talk about Avenatti and another person formerly from Trump’s orbit doing a television show together – Anthony Scaramucci? Ugh.

Speaking of television shows, guess who is pitching a show modeled after Trump’s Apprentice show? Trump’s former attorney, now convicted felon, Michael Cohen, is trying to get himself a television show. He calls it The Fixer and it is modeled after The Apprentice, Trump’s hugely popular show. You can’t make this stuff up.

That is what Cohen was considered to be for Trump – a fixer. He’s the one who got the alleged hush money check to Stormy Daniels. He has become a media darling because he turned on Trump. He went from praising Trump to saying nothing but bad things about him. The media laps it up.

Cohen confirmed the idea of a show to the New York Post, describing it as one that would show Cohen in business and other scenarios where he would fix situations for people. He said the idea was still in “a very early stage.” “Somebody came up with the concept and we shot a three-minute teaser for it,” Cohen said.

Cohen said he’s working with Colin Whelan of Conveyor Media, whose past credits include “Joe Exotic: Tigers, Lies and Cover-Up” for Investigation Discovery; “Cooking On High” for Netflix; and “Bargain Mansions” for HGTV.

“He’s part of that whole team out there shopping it,” Cohen said of Whelan.

Reached by phone Whelan demurred: “We’re all not really working together any longer.”

Sounds like someone is getting cold feet, eh?

This is the upside-down world in which we live. Politically motivated criminal trials and felons looking to become television stars are becoming stories of the day.
