Too Much of a Bad Thing. – HotAir

There is no universally agreed-upon number of immigrants who have entered and settled in the United States over the past 20 years. The number is typically described as “tens of millions,” with anywhere from 1-3 million entering each year, depending on the year.

Then you have illegal aliens, whose numbers are impossible to know. Then you have asylum seekers, who likely will become permanent residents, but not certainly.

For all of these populations, their children born in the United States become U.S. citizens by default.

All told, according to census numbers, nearly 30 percent of the U.S. population are immigrants or their first-generation children.

That’s a staggering number, and it puts an exclamation point on the worry that people have that the culture that we all grew up in is being wiped away, especially since a large fraction of these immigrants have little desire to integrate.

Now I believe the evidence that immigration can be a very good thing is everywhere. Immigrants are more likely to start businesses, and certain immigrant populations integrate well and bring new blood and vitality to our society.

But I also believe the evidence is clear: you can have too much of a good thing. That’s true of any good thing. If the balance is off, the system itself becomes unbalanced. Even water, without which we would all die in days, can also kill you if you drink too much

When it comes to immigration as a whole, we’ve clearly drunk too much.

Not all immigrants are the same, either. Some bring cultural attitudes and habits that inject new vitality into the economy and the culture, while others, especially from the Third World, do the opposite.

It’s grossly politically incorrect to say that, of course, but almost everybody knows it’s true. Even liberals who insist the opposite are notably unlikely to live in places with large numbers of Third World immigrants, and most certainly would not move to such areas. Instead, they talk about restaurants with new foods, cultural celebrations, and gauzy benefits that they enjoy or claim to enjoy

And if liberals moved into such areas, they would find they are not welcome anyway. Here in Minneapolis, it’s pretty hard to find a white person in Little Mogadishu unless they are bringing a check from the government, either for welfare benefits or to pay for some fraudulent daycare or phony medical transportation business. You are almost as likely to be surrounded by a hostile crowd as to be ignored, and being made welcome is usually done for the cameras.

Mayor Frey is welcomed when he comes to promise benefits and have a photo op, of course, but ordinary citizens rarely venture there.

For all the talk you hear from politicians about Somalis or other Muslims being the heart and soul of our communities, the reality is that they only want to be if they get to run it. Of course, every group wants to have political power and a greater say in how their community is run, but Muslim immigrants are fundamentally different because along with their religion, they bring a totalitarian ideology.

They don’t want to be Muslims in a pluralistic society; they want the society to become Muslim, because Islam is a totalitarian ideology as well as a religion.

TERRIFYING: Yasir Qadhi, chairman of America’s top Sharia council:

“Our mission from Allah as Muslims in America is to establish Sharia law when we have the power to do so.

But if we try to establish it by force as minorities before we’re ready, it would be suicide.

His organization has issued a fatwa calling for $140 million a year to be allocated to fund the campaigns of hundreds of Muslim political candidates nationwide. https://x.com/Shariakill/status/2089268438107578702/video/1

Muslim immigrants who go to the mosque are told all the time that it is not their mission to live and thrive in America; it’s to take it over. There are different degrees of radicalism among mosques, but not in the fundamental message that Islam is fundamentally at odds with Western liberalism. And that’s because it IS fundamentally at odds with classical liberalism and the American idea of democratic pluralism.

It’s not prejudice to notice this, because it is reality. Prejudice is prejudging; noticing reality comes from rational judgment once you examine the facts.

It doesn’t really matter whether leftists like Mayor Frey understand this and are pretending not to because they need the votes, or whether they are just blind to reality. Either way, they are putting our heads on the chopping block.

It doesn’t take a genius to see that Islam is incompatible with pluralism. All you have to do is listen to the Imams across the United States and look at the cities where Muslims have come to dominate. It’s all about taking power, changing society and laws to fit Islam and its totalitarian ideology, and in some cases kicking out the people who fit their idea of who is Haram.

As is also the case in Western Europe, assimilation is demonstrably rare in U.S. municipalities with heavy concentrations of Muslim migrants. In these areas, large influxes of Muslims from abroad have changed not only the complexion, culture, values and traditions of cities, but also the demographic makeup of city councils, school boards, police departments and courts. Muslim officials, in turn, have changed laws or how existing laws are enforced to conform to the tenets of Islam – an unwelcome trend for many non-Muslims and particularly Jews threatened by their militantly anti-Israel rhetoric and positions.

“Our number one and top priority is to protect and defend our community, it is not to assimilate,” asserted Linda Sarsour, a renowned Palestinian activist who lives in the Paterson area and has helped transform the city.

RCI’s reporting on this phenomenon has found that Muslims often break with U.S. norms on a wide range of fundamental issues – from the separation of church and state and attitudes toward people of different faiths to what constitutes women’s rights and terrorism. As Muslims remake communities in their own images, they are dramatically changing the ever-evolving idea of what it means to be an American.

It’s not just in Michigan that Muslims have taken over cities and remade them in their image. They are not just creating enclaves like “Little Italy” or Chinatown, which are pockets within larger American cities and retain a cultural distinctiveness within a larger patchwork of Americanness. Muslims seek to displace the population that was there before.

Paterson, New Jersey, is now a Muslim city, and it is an outpost of the Middle East.

Paterson’s largest mosque – the Islamic Center of Passaic County – is run by a radical cleric whose brother-in-law was a senior Hamas commander in the West Bank, where he orchestrated a number of suicide bombings against Israelis. Before immigrating to the U.S. from Jordan, this leading Paterson imam, Mohammad Qatanani, served time in an Israeli prison for his own confessed ties to Hamas. Yet he was presented the keys to the city by Paterson’s mayor in 2024.

Until last year, U.S. immigration authorities had sought to deport Qatanani because he hid his criminal record on applications for a green card. But last year, judges appointed by President Obama and President Biden ruled he could stay in the United States. They did so despite testimony showing that he’d called  for a “new intifada,” or violent Palestinian uprising, against Israel in a Times Square rally in 2017.  Hundreds of Israelis were killed during the first and second intifadas, and Qatanani has supported the families of intifada suicide bombers. A decade earlier, he gave a sermon condemning Christians to hell, telling Paterson’s Muslim faithful that “the followers of Jesus” as Lord will burn in the “pits of hellfire.”

The 62-year-old Qatanani, who has also admitted ties to the terror-tied Muslim Brotherhood, oversees satellite mosques in neighboring Clifton and Prospect Park, N.J., as well. His mentor and predecessor at the Islamic Center was its founder Mohammad El-Mezain. Qatanani worked alongside El-Mezain until El-Mezain was convicted of funneling millions of dollars to Hamas in 2008.

That Imam was given the key to the city.

Intensely political, the Palestinian community in Paterson shows up in force at council meetings, voter drives, and election events. Much of the political organizing centers around mosques, where the Israeli-Gazan war is debated and where politicians are groomed – or shunned. After Hamas terrorists slaughtered more than 1,200 Israeli Jews on Oct. 7, 2023, New Jersey’s U.S. representatives, senators and the state’s governor all declared their support for Israel. In response, Paterson leaders effectively banned the officials from mosques and public spaces in the Palestinian stronghold, according to published reports

The state’s new Democratic governor, Mikie Sherrill, recently tried to thaw relations by visiting the Islamic Center and snapping a selfie with controversial imam Qatanani. She even covered her head with a hijab, in what critics said was an overt act of pandering to her Islamic hosts.

Paterson Muslims have turned out the vote to elect several brethren as councilmen, including Democrat Alaa Abdelaziz, who last year went on to become New Jersey’s first Palestinian-American state assemblyman. More than 40 Muslims now hold elected office in the state.

Even the Paterson police department has been Islamized – and politicized. More than 30 Muslims are now on the force, and some have sewn the Palestinian flag on their uniforms. Former Paterson Police Chief Ibrahim Baycora was sworn in on the Quran.

Another local hotbed for political activism is the Palestinian American Community Center, a well-funded anti-Israel operation with close to $2 million in assets, according to tax records. A mainstay of the greater Paterson community, the center helps organize the city’s “Palestine Day on Palestine Way” festival and lobbies for U.S. divestment from Israel, which it claims is carrying out “genocide” against the Palestinian people.

The center website claims that “U.S. support for Israel [is] rooted in perceived colonial bonds and white supremacy … Zionism [is] part of a larger Western imperial project.”

We think of the Middle East and North Africa as Muslim, but it wasn’t always so. For all the talk of colonialism being evil, the area was not converted to Islam; it was conquered. Formerly Christian, Jewish, and Zoroastrian areas are Muslim because Muslims declared they must be, and could do so because they were conquered.

The Muslim migration to the United States is not an influx of migrants looking for a better life; it is the first wave intending to colonize the United States.

Many liberals expect that Muslims will follow the pattern that most immigrant groups have: the first generation remains mostly tied to their prior culture, but the next integrates. But the evidence that this is so for Muslims is not just weak but contradictory. Often, it is the US-born Muslims who become more radicalized, and children who begin to integrate are punished harshly.

It’s madness not to recognize this fact and engage in cultural and political self-defense, and the longer we wait to recognize that fact, the harder it is to defend ourselves.

If injecting tens of millions of migrants over so short a time was a mistake, it’s a much bigger one to allow mass migration of Muslims in particular.

We have to stop it. Right now.
