Scott Galloway is a marketing professor at NYU and was a big supporter of Zohran Mamdani. Because of course he was. All the Best™ people were, because Zohran is so dreamy and wants the best for everybody, unlike the meanies.
He was also a big supporter of the pied-à-terre tax, which imposed a substantial annual fee on valuable “second homes” in New York City. You know the ones that gazillionaires have because they are super wealthy and don’t care about the homeless and struggling people in New York City.
They need to pay their fair share.

This is what governing for people looks like.
Liberals were thrilled back in April when Mamdani made it happen, and didn’t even mind a bit when he called out Ken Griffin and doxxed him in a now-viral video.
Griffin called the video creepy and weird, and is moving much of his business to Miami for obvious reasons.
But along the way something unexpected happened. First, that $5 million floor turns out to be $1 million dollars on apartments and condos, and Mamdani released all the names and addresses for everybody who POTENTIALLY might be eligible for the tax, which includes people who live in those residences permanently.
Almost a million residences were doxxed, when estimates show that fewer than 13,000 of them actually qualify. The others will have to prove they live in those residences in about a month or else be subject to the tax.

Since most of Mamdani’s supporters are wealthy and educated, quite a few people were doxxed by the mayor, including Galloway, who turns out not to be happy that he got the Ken Griffin treatment.

Suddenly, a lot of Mamdani supporters are very unhappy. This wasn’t supposed to happen to THEM, right? This was about socking it to the rich guys nobody likes.
As many people have noted, being on that list is very convenient for the sans-culottes like Luigi Mangione, should they decide to take somebody out. Since only about 1% or so of the residences that were doxxed are even truly subject to the tax, the rest of the names and addresses are linked to people who are there pretty much all the time.
How convenient.
Alex Berenson’s mom happened to be one of the people who was told that she owed the city a fee on her home. Here is what he discovered:
She had received a letter from New York City demanding $55,048 in property taxes on the townhouse in Midtown Manhattan where she has lived since 1996. It was weird, she said, because she didn’t owe $55,048 in property taxes. She asked if I could help her figure out the letter.
The answer turned out to be the city’s new “pied-à-terre” tax, the latest make-good on Mayor Zohran Mamdani’s promise to “tax the rich.” Approved by the New York State Legislature in May, the levy is an extra annual property tax of 0.8 percent to 6.5 percent on high-end apartments and townhouses owned by people whose primary residence is not in New York City.
Except, in its rush to get the loot, the New York City Department of Finance didn’t bother to figure out which properties are really subject to the tax—and which are owned by full-time New Yorkers like my mom, who owns no other properties and now has until August 21 to prove residency or face that $55,048 tax bill. A cursory online search would have revealed the truth, but the city’s bagmen didn’t bother. To add insult to injury, the letter was actually addressed to my father, who died six years ago, in May 2020—in the third-floor bedroom he shared with my mother in the same townhouse.
Welcome to socialism.
It shouldn’t surprise us that Mamdani is already screwing a ton of his supporters. The revolution always eats its own, and all these followers of the modern Robespierre are getting exactly what they deserve.
Unfortunately, most of the people who got doxxed along with them were not part of the mob who put Mamdani in office. He only got a bit more than 1 million votes in total, and a whole heck of a lot of them were renters. While Mamdani brought out a lot of voters who usually don’t participate, the turnout was about 40%, meaning that Mamdani won as much by voter indifference as by supporter enthusiasm.
Turnout in New York City used to be around 90%, but in the 2021 election, only 23% turned out. Mamdani brought in a whole lot of voters who wanted socialism, but the indifference of the majority is the big reason why he won.
So New Yorkers get this, either because they actually chose it, as those elite jerks who are now complaining about Mamdani did, or because a lot of others chose not to participate.
I, of course, have zero sympathy for Scott Galloway and his ilk; he isn’t sorry that Mamdani is doing this to others; he’s just complaining that it happened to him. Galloway deserves much more trouble than he will ever get for supporting Mamdani, although, perhaps, he learned a lesson that almost anybody can suffer the fate of Brian Thompson, whom Luigi Mangione gunned down.
It’s the middle class who never wanted Mamdani who garner my sympathy. Many of them did vote, and vote against Mamdani. Will they learn the lesson that they need to get their neighbors to start voting again?
Or are they fated to remain victims of idiots like Galloway and the sans culottes he pretends to care about?
