Jeff Blehar at NRO: Then of course there is Cunningham’s superstar teammate Caitlin Clark. I’m willing to bet that if my readers know anything at all about the WNBA, it is either directly or indirectly related to her. She is widely believed to be the best player in the game and is beyond a doubt the league’s marquee attraction. When she went down with injuries last season, ticket sales for away games plummeted along with the league’s already meager ratings.
So I have never understood why sports columnists, as well as much of the league itself, seem to hate her. Perhaps it’s jealousy. But it sometimes results in true verbal atrocity, which brings us to what I will label — in July, mind you — the Most Irresponsibly Stupid Column of Year. So come on down and collect your prize, Nancy Armour of USA Today!
Armour’s column is so stridently deranged that its title announces up-front that you’re taking a temporary trip to the moral funhouse: “It’s Time to Stop Pretending That Caitlin Clark’s Flops Are Harmless.” First off, for those prone to misusing the phrase “begging the question,” here is a perfect example of a title that does just that: it assumes that what we’ve seen are flops. I see a woman who has, quite frankly, been kicked around the court like a hackeysack by opposing teams for several years and is complaining to the refs about not getting foul calls, as players often will. How is that harmful?
Ed: Sports used to be unifying as well as equalizing. The only things that mattered were talent, effort, and heart. People and teams focused on achievement and sportsmanship. Now, because the WNBA refuses to treat its players equally, it no longer has any unifying value at all. And very little value in any other sense, either.

Becket Fund: A federal appeals court today ruled in favor of Mimi Weiss, a veteran Kaiser Permanente employee who was fired after requesting a religious exemption from the company’s COVID-19 vaccine mandate. In Weiss v. The Permanente Medical Group, Weiss, a fully remote worker, initially received approval for her exemption, but Kaiser later revoked it after subjecting her to intrusive questioning about her faith and medical history. Kaiser then fired her after over two decades of service, and Weiss filed a federal lawsuit against the healthcare giant.
Becket argued the case on behalf of Weiss in 2025. In its unanimous opinion today, the court rejected Kaiser’s claim that Weiss had not adequately explained her religious objection. Judge Danielle Forrest warned that demanding more explanation than the law requires “would permit an employer to delve into the religious practices of an employee in order to determine whether religion mandates the employee’s adherence.” The court also issued a 2-1 memorandum opinion ruling for Weiss on her state law privacy claims.
“I never imagined my faith would end up costing me my job,” said Mimi Weiss, former Senior Consultant and Department Manager at Kaiser Permanente. “I wasn’t asking Kaiser for special treatment, just the freedom to live according to my conscience. After 20 years of service, I didn’t think that was too much to ask. I’m grateful the court recognized that religious employees should not have to give up their beliefs or their privacy to keep their jobs.”
Ed: The big twist here? This unanimous decision came out of the Ninth Circuit. Kaiser may appeal this to the Supreme Court, but the message here is that the authoritarian push during the pandemic isn’t holding up to scrutiny, even in the more progressive circles of the federal judiciary. Mediaite: Dan Abrams verbally pummeled Texas Senate candidate James Talarico (D) for branding two police officers murderers, even though they were acquitted in the case the liberal lawmaker cited.
The Mediaite founder criticized Talarico and even suggested the cops should sue him on the Thursday episode of his SiriusXM radio show. Abrams was responding to comments Talarico made at a town hall event where he was asked about reparations for Black Americans and a crime bill; Talarico answered by pointing to his involvement with a high-profile local case where a Black man died after being tased by police.
“I had a constituent of mine murdered by the police. His name was Javier Ambler. He was an unarmed Black man who was pulled over for not dimming his brights,” Talarico said. “He told the officers that night that he had a heart condition. They tased him so many times that he died right in front of them.”
Talarico continued, “The whole thing was filmed for a reality TV show called Live PD. It’s kind of like Cops… these programs encourage more violent interactions between law enforcement and their constituents — particularly their Black constituents.”
Abrams, who hosted Live PD and now hosts On Patrol Live, played the clip for his audience and then went scorched earth on Talarico — accusing him of blatantly warping the facts.
Ed: Dan is a straight shooter, and that makes this ream-out even more notable. Be sure to read it all. I’m a big fan of the old Live PD show, which A&E canceled after the George Floyd riots, and his On Patrol Live, a successor series which is still on Reelz.

Ed: I’m sure the rest of this is brilliant from VDH, but this is the key point I wanted to highlight. I’m not a fan of everything Trump does or how he acts, but he’s the only political figure at the moment who can even fight against the Left’s cultural domination. If he can sustain it for a while, more will follow. Will they be as effective? Just wait to see how much the Left demonizes those who follow to measure the answer to that question.

When asked if Trump would intervene this time, Karoline Leavitt gave an emphatic “No.” Anyway, it’s also interesting because it gave us a photo of Andrew Tate and his brother Tristan being arrested. And I don’t know how to explain to you that these men are considered to be the pinnacle of masculinity by right-wing American Zoomers. This is the hardened male that they aspire to become. He has over 10 million followers on X alone.
The purple silk “shirt”—legally, I feel a shirt must cover the nipples—matches the purple transition lenses. There are the capris, the slip-on shoes. It looks like they’re dragging him out of Fire Island. Put a wig on this person and she’s late for her mimosas at Club Med. Put a wig on and it’s my quirky drunk aunt Annie Tate whose bra is always showing. His brother Tristan, in a three-piece suit and a hat that is both too big and too small, is almost as bad. Andrew Tate and his brother are actually a return to the male animal as a flamboyant, colorful thing, the brilliant male mallard next to the dull brown female. In that way we’re actually made for each other, as I, in Tevas and with limp hair, am a return to the female duck. Andrew, call me.
Ed: I laughed all the way through this because I had a similar reaction to these pictures. So much for the ultramasculine branding, eh? It reminded me of the “metrosexual” episode of South Park several years ago, which also means that this is not just a contradiction, it’s also passé.

Hiring another professor who describes his own work as “counter-Zionist.” Launching a student journal of erotic poetry and “support for Palestinian Liberation.” Appointing another scholar to a visiting professorship that already existed and has been refilled annually for nearly a decade. Adding a course on antisemitism taught by a professor who backs a definition of antisemitism embraced by boycott-Israel advocates.
Harvard and ten of the nation’s biggest-name appellate lawyers are brazenly trying to pass all these steps off to federal judges as proof that the university is moving to address what even the university itself concedes in its latest court filing has been “disturbing, offensive, and vile treatment of Jewish students.” …
What Harvard has not done is survey Jewish students or the campus as a whole to see whether what it found in 2024—that Jewish students get an inferior campus experience—has changed.

Hugh Hewitt at Fox News: The future of the West and President Donald Trump’s reputation within it through the centuries will depend on the outcome of the ongoing battle with the Islamic Republic of Iran.
America is decisively winning that battle, but it has not yet won it. In fact, the U.S. could lose the battle. If President Trump perseveres, that will not happen. If he abandons the battle, it could very well be the worst foreign policy debacle for the U.S. since the end of the Vietnam War, rivaling even that of the catastrophe of President Joe Biden’s command to American forces to quickly depart Afghanistan in 2021.
Because of those two competing futures, it is highly likely that President Trump will persevere. And he should.

NY Post: Filmmaker Sophia Maddox broke down in tears when she and her father, Daniel Arguelles, learned from an online ancestry search that his dad was one of America’s most notorious criminals — Charles Manson.
“I was obviously very devastated,” Maddox, 26, exclusively told The Post. She recalled feeling “dumbstruck” and “sobbing.”
“My dad was just rubbing my back and holding me, and telling me we were nothing like him. But, it was a little traumatic,” she added.
Ed: If it were me, I’d keep that to myself. Maddox’s father wanted her to do just that. Instead, Maddox made a Hulu documentary about it, and her father has stopped talking to her because of it. Perhaps there’s a life lesson in that for Maddox.
