Manhattan Federal Building Hit with Molotov Cocktail; Anti-ICE Activist Arrested – HotAir

ABC News calls this a “scare.” It looks much more like a domestic terror attack.

A federal building in lower Manhattan got set aflame with an “incendiary device” this morning. The video of the attack, from two different angles, shows that the danger went well beyond a “scare”:

ABC News went on to report that the device appeared to be a fireworks-initiated Molotov cocktail. Law enforcement immediately arrested a suspect, whose track record will surprise no one paying attention the last eighteen months:

There was a scare outside 26 Federal Plaza in Lower Manhattan Monday morning when someone released what appeared to be a smoke grenade outside the building.

Police say the person is believed to be a protester with a history of anti-ICE activity.

Officers quickly secured the area and the suspect was taken into custody.

Authorities said the “makeshift incendiary device” was made up of fireworks and a flammable liquid.

That’s no “smoke grenade.” It’s a device intended to set fire to buildings and people. This is an event of domestic terrorism, one that could have killed people had luck changed just a little. It’s curious that ABC News felt the urge to minimize this in its lead and only related the nature of the device later in the article.

Or perhaps, it’s not all that curious.

The FBI and the JTTF will take jurisdiction over the attack, Bill Melugin reports:

The suspect has provided them plenty of material to investigate, the NY Post reports with somewhat clearer language:

An armed maniac lit an “incendiary device” outside a federal government building in lower Manhattan early Monday in an attack being investigated by the terrorism task force, according to officials and sources.

The unidentified man started a fire outside of 26 Federal Plaza around 8:30 a.m., ignited fireworks and threatened passersby with airsoft rifles around 8:30 a.m., police and sources said. …

The man was pulling a cart containing … long firearms, more fireworks and other items, sources told The Post.

In other words, this wasn’t just going to be a scare. This perp was prepared for a significant rampage, although he appears to have miscalculated just how effective a response law enforcement would produce.

Fox News and the NYP have a picture of the suspect, apparently taken by a witness at the scene of the arrest:

We’ll add updates as developments warrant. Based on similar events in the past, don’t be surprised if this suspect hasn’t popped up on law-enforcement radar in the past. And based on the approach to leftist terrorism unveiled recently by the Trump administration and Marco Rubio, expect a big effort to determine whether anyone funded, aided, and abetted this attack, especially via funding.
