It’s tempting to say that the worst hoax of the 21st century was the COVID hysteria that did so much damage to the United States and the world. A virus that is no more dangerous than a bad flu season was used to upend the world, destroying lives, separating families, redistributing tens of trillions in wealth from the poor and middle class to the wealthy, and destroying a generation’s education and mental health.
But as bad as the COVID myths were, I think it is safe to say that the Climate hysteria and all the downstream consequences of reshaping our lives and economies around a hysterical overreaction to an exaggerated problem are worse.
Millions of young people have had their mental health shattered, economies have been hobbled for decades, and the balance of the world economy has shifted toward China as manufacturing has migrated there. Germany is deindustrializing, the UK is committing economic suicide, and many of our major industrial powers have wasted trillions on useless technology.

As much as anyone, Al Gore has been a main cheerleader of what amounts to a death cult, and as The Wall Street Journal noted, the twenty-year anniversary of An Inconvenient Truth has arrived.
It’s the 20th anniversary of Gore’s Oscar-winning sci-fi film AN INCONVENIENT TRUTH. Let’s look at some of his failed predictions: https://t.co/6gxg9jieGZ

Gore made his political career out of hawking an imaginary climate apocalypse, and if you measure success by the influence one has on the world, one has to call Gore a major success. His hysteria has changed the course of history, although in much the same way that “visionaries” like Margaret Sanger and Paul Ehrlich have: much for the worse.
As Mr. Gore’s Oscar-winning sci-fi classic “An Inconvenient Truth” observes its 20th anniversary on May 24, it would be far too easy to dub him the Chicken Little of climate change. The fowl of legend, unlike Mr. Gore, didn’t devise the means to profit spectacularly from his doomsday squawking. Mr. Gore has successfully convinced the political world to design subsidies, regulations and mandates that fattened his bank account by immense amounts.
Mr. Gore was famously dubbed potentially the world’s first “carbon billionaire” in a New York Times article back in 2009, many years of wealth accumulation ago. We don’t know what he’s worth now; estimates suggest it’s in the hundreds of millions. He was worth less than $2 million when he left the vice presidency in 2001 and has breezily dismissed charges that there is an inherent conflict of interest in being both the Visionary Saint of Climate Change and a rent-seeking businessman who turns doomcasting into profit.
In 2026, even the New York Times has started publishing pieces advising its progressive readership to calm its climate change-related fears, gently pointing out that despite all the hype, the issue still doesn’t grab actual voters much. “Climate politics is in undeniable withdrawal,” notes the paper’s David Wallace-Wells. This détente must be hurtful to Mr. Gore, who foresaw, in “Earth in the Balance,” “a kind of global civil war” between green “resistance fighters” and the “silent partners of destruction.”
There are two generations or more that are substantially smaller and less mentally healthy because of climate change hysteria. I personally know quite a few younger people who declined to have children, or limited themselves to one, to save Gaia, or to prevent their having lived through an apocalypse.

“In 1995, the New York Times predicted that most of the beaches on the East Coast of the United States would be gone in 25 years. Well, the beaches are still sandy and the ice caps are still frozen. But every major Democrat has campaign rather on climate change, using it as a scare tactic. Vote for them or the world’s going to melt. And once they’re in, they send huge climate contracts to their friends, to their donors, but no one’s buying it anymore. Democrats have cried climate wolf so many times that even the Times is telling them to cut it out. They say Democrats don’t have to campaign on climate change anymore. Turns out voters care about energy prices, not windmills, solar panels. The New York Times says it’s not clear why climate should be at the center of Democrat campaigns. And even under Biden, climate wasn’t a top priority for voters. A poll from 2024 had climate at the bottom of the list. And remember the Democrats’ top climate warrior, Greta? Well, she moved on from fighting climate change to freeing Palestine. Is the left finally going to give up its most expensive scam? After decades of hysteria, decades of finger pointing, the polls tanked. The money dried up faster than they said our water sources would. And now all of a sudden, Democrats don’t care about climate change anymore.”
Climate change has been the tentpole issue for the revolution for decades. Every problem is either caused by or exacerbated by climate change. And the solution to every problem is limiting growth, higher taxes, and socialism.

If the climate alarmists were right, we would all already be dead many times over. Yet the failure of predictions to meet reality have never had an impact on the propaganda; the dates of our imminent destruction just get moved back.

The “trust the science” folks have managed to transfer trillions of dollars into their own pockets over the past few decades, and are lobbying to get trillions more per year to transform our societies into poorer, more controlled placed.
Al Gore just said “none of the predictions from the past 20 years have been wrong from climate scientists.”

No matter how absurd it may seem, the propaganda works. Once people are induced into a panic, their capacity to think evaporates. Emotional appeals work. “Crisis” motivates people.

One of the reasons why the left is more easily captured by panics is that they are more susceptible to emotional appeals and more likely to descend into hysterics. It worked particularly well during COVID, but much of the success of the climate hysteria has been touching the emotional erogenous zones of liberals.

Al Gore said the North Pole could be ice-free by 2013.
Professor Peter Wadhams warned it would lose its summer ice by 2016.
While NASA’s James Hansen said by 2018.
The list goes on and on. But in reality, satellite data show late summer ice still covers millions of square kilometers with no documented trend for 18 years.
Every few years, the timeline resets.
The apocalypse is always just “10-or-so” years away.
Just as Greta Thunberg became the face of climate change for the younger set, Gore was the face for those who prefer technocratic BS.
Climate hysteria has always been about promoting socialist, centralized control of the economy and enhanced government control over our lives. And it has worked, if not completely. Look at Europe’s industrial decline.
It is tempting to think that we are winning the war, finally, and perhaps we really are. But as with gender ideology, I fear we are taking back territory in the way that Ukraine or Russia have been seesawing on the front: incrementally, and not permanently.
If the Democrats take back control of Congress and the White House, we may have to fight these battles all over again. We will be in a more secure position than if Trump had not won, but I am under no illusion that we have defeated the climate cult.
There is too much money riding on this. The Empire will strike back.
Editor’s Note: Thanks to President Trump, illegal immigration into our great country has virtually stopped. Despite the radical left’s lies, new legislation wasn’t needed to secure our border, just a new president.
