Six Chicago-area middle schoolers hospitalized after eating marijuana gummies

Six students at a middle school in Illinois were taken to the hospital after consuming marijuana edibles Wednesday.

Round Lake Area Schools District #116 officials told WMAQ-TV that the kids, who attend Round Lake Middle School in Round Lake Heights, Illinois, about 42 miles northwest of Chicago, got sick after eating gummies containing THC, the psychoactive chemical found in marijuana.

Officials did not specify what the dosage is believed to have been.

Emergency personnel went to the school at 8:52 a.m. local time and then at 11:15 a.m. to pick up the affected students, the Greater Round Lake Area Fire Protection District told local newspaper The Daily Herald.

The students’ condition stabilized after they received care at the hospital, school officials said, according to WBBM-TV.

The Round Lake Heights Police Department told WGN-TV that it is investigating the incident and the origin of the gummies that sickened the kids.
