The anti-war protester who had camped out atop the Frederick Douglass Memorial Bridge since Friday came down from the bridge Wednesday morning after running out of supplies.
First responders used an elevated basket to help lower Guido Reichstadter, 45, of Florida, according to a video posted on social media by WJLA-TV. He was taken to an ambulance, according to WTTG-TV.
Mr. Reichstadter indicated Tuesday night on X that he would come down, noting that he had run out of water days prior.
Hi it’s Guido! I’m still here on the bridge. My water ran out Sunday & I’m heading down in the morning.
I’ll probably be going to jail for a while when I get down. I’ll be handing off this account and hopefully we can stay in touch.

The Metropolitan Police Department, which had described the protest as a barricade situation, indicated in an alert that the protest was over by about 9:33 a.m. Monday.
Lanes on South Capitol Street SE that were closed for Wednesday’s police response were subsequently reopened to traffic.
Police have not yet specified what, if any, criminal charges Mr. Reichstadter will face.
Before this latest dayslong protest against the Iran war and artificial intelligence, Mr. Reichstadter scaled the Frederick Douglass Memorial Bridge in 2022 to protest the overturning of Roe v. Wade.
