Montgomery County police said they arrested four people involved in two illegal street takeovers, including one who shot two people during a car rally in a grocery store parking garage in Kensington, Maryland.
Authorities accused Hermes Matewere, 19, of wounding two people when he opened fire during an April 4 gathering at a Safeway in the 10500 block of Connecticut Avenue.
The victims took themselves to a hospital after the 2:30 a.m. shooting, police said.
Surveillance video released by police allegedly showed Mr. Matewere handling and shooting the gun while surrounded by other people. The footage shows dozens of spectators running away when the suspect fires additional rounds into the air.
Mr. Matewere faces assault, reckless endangerment and several firearms charges. He is currently jailed without bond.
Police also announced the arrest of two adults and a teenager from a February street takeover in which the suspects mobbed an occupied police cruiser.
Officers arrested Novorriya Gregory Smith Jr., 20, of Lusby; Ayden Joseph Cline, 18, of Cumberland, Pennsylvania; and a 17-year-old from Laurel in connection with the takeover in Chevy Chase.
Police said rallygoers gathered at the intersection of East-West Highway and Connecticut Avenue around 12:30 a.m. on Feb. 22. Spectators smashed one officer’s cruiser windows, police said.
Mr. Cline is accused of climbing atop a police cruiser with a lit flare, and Mr. Smith is accused of breaking a cruiser window and exposing himself to the officer. Police did not describe the 17-year-old’s actions. No officers were injured.
Mr. Smith and Mr. Cline are charged with reckless endangerment, and all three suspects are charged with disorderly conduct, malicious destruction of property, failure to obey lawful orders and hindering.
The two adults are being held without bond. The teenager was released to their parents.
