Lauren Boebert’s son jailed on theft, car break-in charges in Colorado

Rep. Lauren Boebert’s son was arrested and charged Tuesday in Colorado after police accused him of carrying out a series of car break-ins and thefts.

The police department of Rifle, Colorado, said Tyler Jay Boebert, 18, is facing nearly two dozen charges — including felony counts of conspiracy and possessing stolen identification documents — after he was taken into custody at 2:30 p.m. Tuesday.

Garfield County Jail records show Mr. Boebert remains behind bars.

Other charges the congresswoman’s son is facing are related to ID theft, breaking into cars, contributing to the delinquency of a minor and “criminal possession of a financial device.”

The incident marks the Boebert family’s latest run-in with the law.

Ms. Boebert’s ex-husband, Jayson, was arrested last month after the couple got into an argument at a restaurant.

Days later, Jayson Boebert was rearrested on assault and weapon charges after authorities said a physical fight with son Tyler got so heated that the father grabbed a rifle.

The Republican lawmaker was granted a restraining order against her ex-husband this month.

The family drama comes as Ms. Boebert is trying to be reelected to Congress in Colorado’s 4th Congressional District after narrowly winning her 2022 race in the state’s 3rd District.
