A biotech company has set up a phone line that connects young people in Boston to senior citizens in Reno, Nevada, Boston.com reports.
The “Call a Boomer” phone line aims to address loneliness, which studies show impacts the youngest and oldest age groups the most, by fostering meaningful connections despite differences in age, lifestyle or politics.
Biotech firm Matter Neuroscience installed the phone line last weekend on Commonwealth Avenue in Boston. It is set up for one month in order to evaluate its popularity and potentially extend the program.
The Boston phone line connects to the lobby of Sierra Manor, an affordable senior housing building in Reno.
Matter Neuroscience previously connected phones in San Francisco and Abilene, Texas, generating more than 350 conversations and 400 voicemails.
The company plans to share recorded conversation snippets on social media.
