Canadian man arrested on charges of stealing flamingo from namesake Las Vegas casino hotel

Las Vegas police on Tuesday arrested a Canadian man on charges of breaking into the Flamingo Las Vegas casino hotel and stealing a live flamingo named Peachy, multiple news outlets report.

Police said surveillance footage showed a man grabbing the flamingo by the neck and legs around 5 a.m., wrapping it in a shirt and jacket, and riding an elevator to a room on the 14th floor.

Officers said they found photos and videos of Mitchell Fairbarn, 33, with Peachy saying he planned to take the bird home.

Animal control officers found that the bird’s wing was badly injured.

Police said Mr. Fairbarn later told officers that he was drunk, couldn’t remember chasing the bird and agreed that his actions were wrong.

Mr. Fairbarn was being held at Clark County Detention Center on four felony animal abuse counts and held on $12,000 bail.
